Let me start with a confession: I'm not incredibly impressed with the food and alcohol scene in Bangalore. It's definitely not like Bombay or Delhi where you can take a wrong turn and end up at a great little restaurant. But I've been around and found a list of places I can really recommend.
So here goes!
Swanky, great food, great cocktails, great ambiance places
Sly Granny for European, Indranagar
Punkah House for Indian fusion, Indranagar (the chicken appam is to die for)
1Q1 for Asian, Cunningham Road
Toast and Tonic for European and gin cocktails, Richmond Road
Kaze for Asian, Lavelle Road (possibly the closest you would get to a Bombay/Delhi party vibe)
The Smoke Co for meat and BBQ, Koramangala (Unfortunately, this has shut permanently. This is why we can't have nice things, Bangalore)
Foxtrot for fusion food, Koramangala

Cute, casual places with good food
Phobidden fruit for Vietnamese, Indranagar
Pizza Bakery for Italian, Indranagar
Bombay Brasserie for Indian fusion, Indranagar (there's a paan and vodka cocktail for the adventurous)
Fatty Bao for Asian, Indranagar
Soo Raa Sang for Korean, Indranagar (I recommend the beef tongue BBQ - do it, live a little)
Harima for Japanese, Residency Road (I usually just get the sushi and ramen and walk down the road to Lavelle for tea and dessert)
Teppan for Japanese, Ulsoor (Make sure to get a table at teppanyaki table)
The Permit Room for South Indian fusion, Brigade Road
Dosa places (because well, this is South India)
Airlines Hotel, Lavelle Road - a lot of dosas taste the same to me but this is my favourite ambiance-wise. Keep in mind these are the Bangalore style thicker dosas and not the Bombay style thin and crispy.
Order-in places
California Burrito for TexMex
Onesta and Brik Oven for pizza
Meghana Foods for Chicken Special Biryani
